Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, this position is responsible for monitoring the contractor’s compliance to the short-term plans, reviewing drill and blast performance and compiling KPI reports for the effective operation of the Motheo Copper Mine.
Key Performance Areas
- Ensure work is undertaken in line with the company HSE standards and legal requirements.
- Assist with the review and checking of the monthly mining contract submission.
- Assist with updating rise and fall calculations.
- Reporting of contractor equipment performance
- Regularly inspect workplace for safe work practices
- Generating and distribution of daily, weekly, monthly KPI reports
- Assist with development and maintenance of processes and systems for the mining department.
- Assist with reviewing, developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures for the mining department.
- Provide operational inputs into the weekly planning process.
- Ensure that the weekly plan is being followed in a safe and efficient manner by the contractor.
- Review and signing off drill and blast designs from the contractor.
- Review of drill and blast performance and QAQC with the contractor.
- Review and optimisation of drill and blast designs with the contractor.
- Assist with coordination of pit dewatering requirements.
- Ensure effective working relationships are built and maintained with other departments and stakeholders, both internal and external
Technical Competencies
- Background in drill and blast.
- Understanding of Open pit mining methods
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Working knowledge of the Botswana Mines, Quarries, Works and Machinery Regulations

Qualification & Experience
- A Degree in Mining from a recognised University
- Registered with the Engineers Registration Board
- Botswana Open Pit Blasting Licence
- Minimum of 5 Years' experience in open pit mining
