Reporting to the HSEC Manager, this position is responsible for implementation and management of Occupational Health, Safety programmes for successful delivery of the Motheo Project from construction through to operations.

 Key Performance Areas

  • Ensure implementation of management systems aligned to ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001
  • Implementing / Facilitating OHS systems and procedures awareness
  • Roll-out OHS Policies, Procedures, and specific programmes
  • Ensure OHS programs are effectively communicated to all project employees and sub-contractors
  • Conduct project OHS induction for all employees and sub-contractors before they are authorized to commence any work.
  • Conduct OHS Audits to Facilitate Continuous Improvement
  • Conduct annual review and facilitate risk assessments of project activities
  • Conduct safety audits as stipulated in OHS plan
  • Align OHS management systems with Legal requirements
  • Facilitate Incident Investigations in compliance with legislative, Sandfire’s procedural requirements
  • Promote, encourage, and foster the safety culture responsible behaviour within the company
  • Ensure the accurate capture and record of OHS statistics and compile general reports
  • Monitor data required to develop OHS statistics.
  • Prepare OHS monthly reports
  • Subordinates Effectiveness

 Qualifications & Experience

  • A minimum of a Degree in Occupational Hygiene/Safety Management or equivalent qualification from a reputable University
  • Must have full knowledge of applicable OHS Integrated Management Systems
  • Recognised Incident Investigation Course (ICAM ideally)
  • Awareness of relevant Botswana OHS statutes
  • Valid Botswana Class B License
  • 10 years’ experience in a mining environment, at least 5 of which should have been at supervisory level in mining or large construction project or similar industrial environment
  • Contract Management and subcontractor experience 
  • Adaptability to changing operational situations
